Rowe: Perry Township Municipal Authority Awarded Over $5.8 Million for Wastewater Updates

HARRISBURG – A state grant totaling over $5.8 million was awarded to Perry Township Municipal Authority today to update its wastewater treatment systems, according to Rep. David H. Rowe (R-Snyder/Union/Mifflin/Juniata).

Funds from the grant program, which is administered by PENNVEST, will be used to replace Perry Township’s existing wastewater treatment system with a new sequencing batch reactor system. The new system will increase capacity and will consist of all new equipment, including an influent pump station, a headworks and screening system, an ultraviolet disinfection system, and aerobic sludge digestion, and post equalization equipment. An emergency generator will be installed at the treatment plant to ensure treatment during power outages.

“After decades of use, the current sewer treatment system in Perry Township has reached the end of its life. Aging technology has negatively impacted the capacity at the wastewater treatment plant, which serves my constituents,” said Rowe. “By replacing the dated infrastructure, we can ensure public health, decrease energy consumption at the plant, and increase the longevity of the system. Plus, the new system will be equipped to continue running during power outages.

“I appreciated the opportunity to support this project, which will benefit current and future Perry Township residents for decades to come.”

PENNVEST is a state financing authority that provides grants and low-cost financial assistance to address water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source pollution problems that impact public health, safety, regulatory compliance, and economic development.
