HARRISBURG – A low-interest loan was awarded to Middleburg Borough today for sewage collection system rehabilitation, according to 85th District Rep. David Rowe (R-Snyder/Union/Mifflin/Juniata).
Under the loan program from PENNVEST, the borough will receive $1.2 million to replace approximately 3,200 feet of aging sewer main with a new, 8-inch sewer main, as well as replace or rehabilitate 25 sewer manholes in the municipality.
“The current sewer treatment system in Middleburg Borough was built in the early 1950s. Aging technology has negatively impacted the capacity at the wastewater treatment plant, which serves over 700 of my constituents,” said Rowe. “By replacing the dated infrastructure, we can ensure the public health, prevent sewer backups, decrease energy consumption at the plant, and increase the longevity of the system.
“The loan from PENNVEST is low-interest and will provide the grant-equivalent of about $320,000 over the lifetime of the 20-year loan. This is a huge benefit to taxpayers in Middleburg Borough, and I’m glad to see the needed dollars invested in the community.”
PENNVEST is a state financing authority that provides low-cost financial assistance to address water, wastewater, stormwater, and non-point source pollution problems that impact public health, safety, regulatory compliance, and economic development.
