Rowe Announces $936,721 in School Safety Grants for the 85th District
February 27, 2020
HARRISBURG – Rep. David Rowe (R-Union/Snyder) today announced that every school in the 85th District was awarded School Safety and Security Grant Program Funds totaling $936,721 by the Pennsylvanian Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD)’s School Safety and Security Committee.
“Our local school board directors and administrators know best the most pressing safety issues facing our area school districts,” said Rowe. “This funding will enable our local school boards to update all hazard plans, conduct emergency preparedness drills, access quality trauma support services, install security infrastructure and cover costs associated with training and compensation of school resource officers.”
The School Safety and Security Committee was established within the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD) by Act 44 of 2018.
The committee released $53.7 million in School Safety and Security Grant Program funding, including $18.7 million that was made available for school districts submitting meritorious applications. Meritorious grants range from $30,000-$45,000 based upon average daily student attendance of the school district.
The grant program funding also included $33.8 million in competitive grants that were made available for certain eligible school entities. In total, 496 school districts received the meritorious grant and 134 applicants received the competitive grant.
